Candid B Lotion: Advanced Antifungal and Anti-inflammatory Relief

Candid B Lotion is a clinically formulated, dual-action topical medication designed for the effective management of fungal skin infections accompanied by inflammation and itching. It combines the potent antifungal agent Clotrimazole with the powerful corticosteroid Beclomethasone Dipropionate, targeting both the causative pathogen and the symptomatic inflammatory response. This prescription-strength lotion is engineered for superior epidermal penetration and sustained relief, making it a first-line choice for dermatologists in treating complicated cutaneous mycoses. Its non-greasy, rapidly absorbing base ensures patient compliance and comfort during treatment cycles.

Features

  • Contains 1% w/w Clotrimazole USP and 0.025% w/w Beclomethasone Dipropionate IP.
  • Presented in a convenient 15ml/30ml lotion form for easy application over larger or hairy areas.
  • Formulated with a non-occlusive, water-based vehicle for optimal skin absorption without residue.
  • Exhibits broad-spectrum antifungal activity against dermatophytes, yeasts (including Candida albicans), and Malassezia furfur.
  • The corticosteroid component provides potent anti-inflammatory, anti-pruritic, and vasoconstrictive actions.
  • Pharmacologically stable composition with a documented shelf life of 24 months from the date of manufacture.

Benefits

  • Provides rapid and effective relief from intense itching, redness, swelling, and discomfort associated with fungal infections.
  • Dual-action formula attacks the root cause of the infection (fungus) while simultaneously controlling the inflammatory immune response.
  • The lotion base is particularly suited for application on intertriginous areas (skin folds), the scalp, and other hirsute regions where creams or ointments are less practical.
  • Helps restore the skin’s natural barrier function and healthy appearance by eliminating the infection and reducing inflammation.
  • Reduces the risk of secondary bacterial infections caused by excessive scratching and skin breakdown.
  • A complete treatment solution that can shorten the overall duration of therapy compared to mono-therapeutic antifungal agents.

Common use

Candid B Lotion is primarily indicated for the treatment of tinea infections (such as tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis, and tinea manuum) that exhibit significant inflammation. It is also highly effective for seborrheic dermatitis, particularly on the scalp and face, and for candidal intertrigo (Candidiasis in skin folds). It is used in cases where a pure antifungal agent may initially exacerbate inflammation due to a robust immune reaction against fungal antigens (a phenomenon known as a dermatophytid reaction).

Dosage and direction

For external use only. Wash and dry the affected area thoroughly. Apply a thin film of Candid B Lotion to the affected area and gently massage until absorbed. Typically applied twice daily (morning and evening) or as directed by a physician. The duration of treatment is usually 2 to 4 weeks for most fungal infections. For seborrheic dermatitis, your doctor may advise a different application schedule. Use this medication for the full prescribed length of time, even if symptoms disappear quickly, to prevent recurrence. Do not use bandages or dressings that occlude the area unless specifically instructed by your doctor. Wash hands before and after application, unless the hands are the treated area.

Precautions

  • This is a prescription medication. Use only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare practitioner.
  • For skin application only. Strictly avoid contact with the eyes, eyelids, inside the nose, mouth, vagina, or other mucous membranes.
  • Do not use on skin with pre-existing atrophy (thinning) or on large areas of broken skin, severe ulcerations, or open wounds.
  • Use with caution on the face, groin, or axillae (armpits) due to higher risk of skin atrophy and other corticosteroid-related adverse effects in these sensitive areas.
  • Prolonged, continuous use of topical corticosteroids can lead to systemic absorption and subsequent systemic side effects, including suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis.
  • If no clinical improvement is observed after 2-4 weeks of use, re-evaluate the diagnosis.

Contraindications

Candid B Lotion is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Clotrimazole, Beclomethasone Dipropionate, any other imidazole antifungals, corticosteroids, or any other ingredients of the formulation. It is also contraindicated in the presence of viral skin infections (e.g., herpes simplex, chickenpox, vaccinia), tuberculous skin lesions, and fungal infections not primarily caused by dermatophytes or Candida species (e.g., deep mycoses like blastomycosis, sporotrichosis). Its use is contraindicated in rosacea and perioral dermatitis.

Possible side effect

Most side effects are associated with the corticosteroid component and are more likely with prolonged use or application under occlusion.

  • Local reactions: Burning sensation, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation.
  • With prolonged use: Skin atrophy, striae (stretch marks), telangiectasia (visible blood vessels), and contact dermatitis.
  • Secondary infection: Prolonged use may suppress the immune response of the skin, potentially leading to secondary bacterial or fungal infections.
  • Systemic effects: Although rare with limited use, excessive application can lead to systemic absorption of the steroid, potentially causing Cushing’s syndrome, hyperglycemia, glucosuria, and HPA axis suppression.

Drug interaction

Formal topical interaction studies are limited. However, concurrent use with other topical corticosteroids, abrasive or peeling agents, or medicated soaps may increase the risk of local adverse effects like severe irritation or skin atrophy. There are no known significant pharmacokinetic interactions with systemically administered drugs. Always inform your doctor about all other products you are applying to your skin.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular application schedule. Do not apply a double dose to compensate for a missed one.

Overdose

Topically applied Candid B Lotion has a low potential for acute overdose. However, chronic, excessive application over large body surface areas or under occlusive dressings can lead to significant systemic absorption of the corticosteroid. Symptoms of systemic overdose may resemble those of hypercorticism (Cushing’s syndrome), including moon face, central obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia, and muscle weakness. In case of suspected chronic overdose, discontinue the medication immediately and seek medical attention. Treatment is supportive and symptomatic, and may require evaluation of HPA axis function.

Storage

Store at room temperature (15Β°-30Β°C), protected from light and freezing. Keep the container tightly closed when not in use. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Do not use the product after the expiration date printed on the packaging. Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so.
