MySimba is a prescription-only medical device designed to support sustainable weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with weight-related comorbidities. It combines advanced technology with a structured behavioral program to help users achieve and maintain a healthier weight through monitored eating habits and real-time feedback. This non-pharmacological approach is intended for use under medical supervision as part of a comprehensive weight management strategy.
Features
- Contains an ingestible sensor, wearable patch, and paired mobile application
- Tracks ingestion events and eating pace in real time
- Provides personalized feedback via the connected app
- Designed for daily use over a recommended period of 6–12 months
- CE-marked as a class IIa medical device
Benefits
- Promotes mindful eating by providing immediate feedback on meal duration and frequency
- Supports long-term behavioral changes rather than short-term dieting
- Integrates seamlessly with healthcare provider monitoring for tailored guidance
- Helps users recognize and modify unconscious eating patterns
- Encourages accountability through consistent data tracking
- May reduce the risk of weight-related comorbidities when used as part of a broader management plan
Common use
MySimba is commonly used by adults with a body mass index (BMI) of ≥30 kg/m², or ≥27 kg/m² with at least one weight-related comorbidity such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, or dyslipidemia. It is typically incorporated into a supervised weight management program that includes dietary advice, physical activity recommendations, and regular clinical follow-up.
Dosage and direction
MySimba is used once daily, in conjunction with the largest meal of the day. The user swallows the ingestible sensor with water approximately 20–30 minutes before the meal. The wearable patch should be applied to the left side of the torso, replaced every 7 days, and kept dry. The mobile app must be synchronized regularly to review feedback and progress. Treatment is usually continued for 6 months, extendable to 12 months based on clinical evaluation.
Precautions
- Not intended for use during MRI examinations; remove patch if imaging is required
- Avoid use in individuals with swallowing disorders or suspected gastrointestinal obstructions
- The adhesive patch may cause skin irritation; rotate application sites weekly
- Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals
- Use under medical supervision only; regular clinical reviews are advised
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to components of the ingestible sensor or patch adhesive
- History of abdominal surgery or gastrointestinal narrowing
- Pacemakers or other implanted electronic medical devices
- Severe renal or hepatic impairment
- Age under 18 years
Possible side effects
- Mild skin irritation or redness under the patch
- Gastrointestinal discomfort (e.g., nausea, bloating) after sensor ingestion
- Headache or dizziness, typically transient
- Allergic reaction to device materials (rare)
Drug interaction
No known pharmacokinetic interactions. However, MySimba should be used cautiously in individuals taking medications that affect gastrointestinal motility or require specific timing with food. Always inform the prescribing clinician of all concomitant medications.
Missed dose
If a dose is missed, continue with the next scheduled dose. Do not take an extra sensor to make up for the missed dose. Consistency is important for behavioral effect, but occasional missed doses are not critical.
Overdose
Ingestion of multiple sensors at once is not recommended and may increase the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort. In case of accidental overdose, seek medical attention. There is no known antidote; treatment is symptomatic.
Storage
Store the sensors and patches at room temperature (15–25°C), in their original packaging, protected from moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use beyond the expiration date.

MySimba is a medical device and should be used only under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
